Methodology: Sources, Conflicts and What Is Missing

They are printed as ranges, never as quotes, because none of them priced a specific Chattanooga house. A real estimate can sit outside every range on this site without anyone being wrong, since the variables that move a quote, the pest, the construction, whether a crawl space is in scope and how many visits the plan contains, are not visible in an aggregate.

These are commercial cost guides, cited by name without endorsement. They are used because they publish figures a reader can go and check, not because their method is known to be sound. That pattern, near-identical extremes around different centers, usually means the two are averaging a different mix of jobs rather than describing a different city. A statewide one-time figure pools a single wasp nest removal with a large multi-service visit, which pulls an average upward. A city-level average of quoted residential jobs sits in a narrower band. Neither publisher discloses enough about its method to prove that, so this site offers it as the most likely reading and labels it as such.

The alternative would have been to quietly print whichever number reads better and delete the other one. A reader who then got a quote outside it would have no way to tell whether the quote was odd or the page was. Publishing the conflict, and the probable reason for it, is more useful than a clean single figure that hides how much the underlying data varies.

Each page names the scope in the visible text so the two can be told apart, and the table at the foot of this page lists them together. The distinction matters most with cost: a statewide termite range and a Chattanooga bed bug average are not comparable evidence, even though both appear as dollar figures on the same site.

They were chosen on one test: can a reader open the same document? Extension publications and state statutes are public. Pest control company blogs, franchise training material and manufacturer literature are not independently published, so none of them is a source here, however confidently they state a figure.

Where practitioner knowledge is used rather than a citation, the page says so. The observation that pre-1980 housing around Brainerd, St. Elmo and North Chattanooga sits largely on crawl-space and block foundations, with thin or absent vapor barriers, is practitioner description and is labeled that way. There is no Census tabulation of foundation type, so it is never presented as a statistic, and no percentage is attached to it anywhere on this site.

There are two of them on this site, and both are the kind of number a reader would reasonably expect to see:

• A Chattanooga-metro wage for pest control workers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational employment statistics do not publish a Chattanooga figure for SOC 37-2021. The national Occupational Outlook Handbook median for pest control workers, $45,250 a year or $21.75 an hour in 2025, is used instead and labeled national. The temptation in both cases is obvious: a plausible-looking local number makes a page feel more authoritative. It also makes it wrong in a way no reader can detect, which is worse than an admission.

Consumer cost guides revise their figures without notice, and phone numbers and portal addresses change, so a retrieval date is part of the claim rather than decoration.
